English Grammar : Phrasal Verbs What are Phrasal Verbs? Phrasal verbs are combinations of a verb + preposition or verb + adverb (sometimes both) that create a new meaning different from the original verb. Example: Look = देखना Look after = देखभाल करना Phrasal verbs are very common in spoken and written English. Types of Phrasal Verbs Intransitive Phrasal Verbs (No object needed) The plane took off . (Plane = subject; no object) Transitive Phrasal Verbs (Object needed) She turned off the light. (Light = object) Separable Phrasal Verbs She turned off the light . She turned the light off . Inseparable Phrasal Verbs She looks after her sister. English phrasal verbs Bring up – किसी विषय को उठाना (e.g., He brought up an interesting topic in the meeting.) Call off – रद्द करना (e.g., They called off the match due to rain.) Carry on – जारी रखना (e.g., She carried on with her work despite the noise.) Come across – संयोग से मिलना (e.g., I came across an old friend at the mall.) Drop out – बीच में छोड़ देना (e.g., He dropped out of college last year.) Find out – पता लगाना (e.g., She found out the truth about the incident.)
