What are Phrasal Verbs?
Phrasal verbs are combinations of a verb + preposition or verb + adverb (sometimes both) that create a new meaning different from the original verb.
Example:
Look = देखना
Look after = देखभाल करना
Phrasal verbs are very common in spoken and written English.
Types of Phrasal Verbs

Intransitive Phrasal Verbs (No object needed)
- The plane took off.
(Plane = subject; no object)
- The plane took off.

Transitive Phrasal Verbs (Object needed)
- She turned off the light.
(Light = object)
- She turned off the light.

Separable Phrasal Verbs
- She turned off the light.
- She turned the light off.

Inseparable Phrasal Verbs
- She looks after her sister.
(Cannot say: looks her sister after ❌)
- She looks after her sister.

Get up – Wake and rise

Give up – Quit
He gave up smoking.

Look after – Take care of
She looks after her baby.

Look for – Search
I am looking for my keys.

Look into – Investigate
The police will look into the case.
पुलिस मामले की जांच करेगी। -
Make up – Invent / Reconcile
She made up a story.
उसने एक कहानी बना ली। -
Pick up – Lift / Collect
I picked up the book.
मैंने किताब उठा ली। -
Put off – Postpone
They put off the match.
उन्होंने मैच स्थगित कर दिया। -
Put on – Wear
She put on her jacket.
उसने अपनी जैकेट पहन ली। -
Run into – Meet unexpectedly
I ran into my teacher.
मैं अपने शिक्षक से अचानक मिला। -
Run out of – Exhaust supply
We ran out of milk.
हमारा दूध खत्म हो गया। -
Set up – Arrange / Establish
They set up a new company.
उन्होंने एक नई कंपनी स्थापित की। -
Take off – Remove / Depart
The plane took off.
विमान उड़ान भर गया। -
Take care – Be careful
Take care of yourself.
अपना ध्यान रखो। -
Turn on – Switch on
Please turn on the fan.

Turn off – Switch off
